St George is portrayed half-length, in military attire against a gold background. He holds a spear diagonally in his right hand and a sword in its scabbard in his left. His shield which almost conceals his left arm is decorated with a stylized Medusa head. The saints’ breastplate is decorated with intersecting blue bands and with chrysography in short parallel gold lines. His bright red mantle rests on his right shoulder and is tied in a knot in front of his left shoulder. St George’s expressive and youthful face has an oval form and is surrounded by a punched halo. The style of painting points towards a workshop in Northern Greece or Macedonia for this icon.
